Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (Pcos) Is a Syndrome, Which Means a Group of Symptoms

It needs a new name, because you certainly do not have to have ovarian cysts to be diagnosed or to get help. The primary problem is insulin, and it’s absolutely vital to optimize thyroid function in addition to making diet and lifestyle changes. PCOS can cause a lot of problems, and can be frustrating when you aren’t finding solutions. It is more common than you may think, and is often missed.

Birth control pills are not the answer

Birth control pills shut down ovaries and cause testosterone to plummet. But the disease still progresses. This may help regulate periods, but it does not treat the problem of PCOS. Birth control pills have been shown to increase risk and incidence of chronic digestive issues, gallstones, and cancer.

Ovarian cysts are the result, not the cause.

Some of the most common symptoms include:

  • Irregular or lack of periods
  • Acne and/or oily skin
  • Unwanted hair growth – especially on your face
  • Scalp hair loss
  • Weight gain
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Infertility
  • Anxiety and/or depression
  • High cholesterol levels, high triglycerides

PCOS puts you at increased risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, increased belly fat and heart disease, and sometimes infertility. Without the proper interventions, you also have an increased risk of Alzheimer’s and uterine and/or breast cancer, which can be very scary and emotional. A lot of these risks are due to problems with insulin resistance.

The good news is, we get it and understand it and can help! We will help you understand PCOS and help you to lower your risk and improve your overall health and quality of life. We work on things like optimizing your thyroid, lowering insulin resistance, as well as providing guidance and support in making lifestyle changes that are realistic for you.
